The reset
Make up your mind
I’ve had mindset on my mind a lot lately.
Not the state of my mindset – although I’ll be first to admit that is a forever project – but helping others with theirs.
This idea has been there, on and off, for the past couple of years.
Each time it comes back stronger.
This time its like my two-year-old daughter pulling on my finger saying, “Daddy, daddy, daddy look at me!”
Ignoring her doubles her resolve.
(If you want a lesson in persistence, watch a toddler.)
After years of business consulting and coaching, I’ve come to realise the only thing that holds people back is their own mind.
Mine’s held me back, yours has undoubtedly held you back.
It stops me speaking my mind, it stops me making phone calls, it stops me posting my musings, it stops me doing exercise, it stops me from stopping doomscrolling…
It can stop me doing things I should, and stop me from stopping things I should stop.
The thing is, it’s all a choice.
Every self-limiting belief – a choice
Every distraction – a choice
How you respond to failure – a choice
Some choices are more conscious than others, but everything you do is a choice on some level.
But the good news is: Your mind can hold you back, and your mind can set you free.
You don’t need an epiphany, you need to make a choice.
My mindset is a forever project.
So is yours.
Having overcome depression with anxiety (or was it anxiety with depression... depended on the day!!), enough ups and downs in life, plenty of mistakes, and working through self-limiting beliefs for too long, etc etc... I’ve got pretty good at managing mindset.
To help you with yours, I’m going to start sharing everything I’ve learnt (and will learn in future) on here.
I hope it helps.
PS. I’m thinking to change the name of this newsletter to ‘Watts on your mind’ or something like that… I’ll make a choice in the next couple of days.
